Slovak NGO Servare et Manere, with President Mr Marek Sobola Ph.D. together with the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Slovak Republic marked the Centenary of the Death of King Peter I Karađorđević of Serbia. This important anniversary, was honored by planting of the Tree of Peace, as a part of the International Tree of Peace Project, at the Serbian Military WW1 Cemetery in Veľký Meder on August 16, 2021.

The event was attended by many important guests: Mr. Martin Klus, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic; His Grace Andrej, Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Austria and Switzerland; Mr. Momčilo Babić Ambassador of Serbia to Slovakia; Colonel Jozef Paluba, bishop's vicar of the Military Ordinariate of Slovakia; Mr. Jozef Viskupič, President of the Trnava Self-Governing Region; Mr. Gergő Holényi, mayor of Veľký Meder and Mr. Marek Sobola, Tree of Peace founder and CEO of Servare et Manere. Representatives of the associations of Serbs from Slovakia were present, as well as many other friends of our country. Not only important and rare guests, but an Honour Guard of the Slovak Armed Forces and also volunteers in historical uniforms of the Serbian Royal Army from the Czechoslovak Legionary Community added nobility and seriousness to the whole event. The planting took place under the Royal Patronage of His Royal Highness Alexander, who sent a letter of greeting to all present guests.

Over 6,000 comrades of King Peter, participants in the defence of Serbia on Cer, Kolubara and other sites of battles in the First World War, rest at the Serbian Military Cemetery in Veliki Medjer. These are the heroes who taught lessons to the Habsburg conquerors until the arrival of the superior German army, after which they were captured and brought to die in this "Death Camp". Therefore, this was the best place to mark the hundredth anniversary of King Peter's death.

In 2018 Marek Sobola founded our project Tree of Peace, which has already been successfully implemented into 10 countries on three Continents. To date Trees of Peace have been planted in Uzbekistan, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Serbia, the United States, Russia, Poland and Austria. This international project is not the memorial of wars. It is a memorial of the victims and historical memory. This project celebrates peace.

Slovak Post issued a Commemorative postmark on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Death of the King Peter I Karađorđević of Serbia and planting of the Tree of Peace.
